Health and Wellness

Wellness is much more than just the opposite of illness.  It is the quality or state of being in good health, especially as an actively sought goal.

Wellness has several facets: nutrition, exercise, emotional health and medical maintenance.  It is our goal to get a baseline on your current health and then help you incorporate new strategies into your life while helping you stay on track.

The older that we get, the harder we have to work to keep ourselves healthy and fit.   This is sometimes referred to as The Red Queen’s Race. The Red Queen’s race is an incident that appears in Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking-Glass and involves the Red Queen, a representation of a Queen in chess, and Alice constantly running but remaining in the same spot.   “Well, in our country,” said Alice, still panting a little, “you generally get to somewhere else — if you run very fast for a long time, as we’ve been doing.”   “A slow sort of country!” said the Queen.  “Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place.  If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!”

The good news is you can design your own wellness program, one that suits your own schedule and temperament.  The bad news is you actually have to do it to see results.  Maybe that’s the origin of the Nike slogan: Just Do It.
